Boy, it’s hard not to love a woman who signs legislation with one hand while cradling her her sling-held babe with the other.
As a mother of 5 myself, I’d have to confess to a good bit of glee watching this lady take the headlines.
Glee is a good description of my feelings on this shake-up. I have been neglectful of my domestic duties since McCain made his announcement, by keeping busy w/ surfing the net to see how the Obama folks are going to deal with this. It’s been so very interesting (and too time consuming AND caused the ruination of my bread baking efforts this morning!) Oh well…I have not experienced glee in politics for too long! This is sure to be quite a ride!
Let’s do our homework on this woman before we throw a party.
I’m sure we’ll hear heaps more before too long (though the media is generally a poor resource when it comes to facts).
I have to admit that it’s fun to watch Obama’s convention thunder stolen by Gov. Palin.
No party, Q, just like the image in the picture, and the fact that for once, someone who is a mother to 5 children is being celebrated, rather than denigrated.
I agree, I am sure we will learn more soon…but for now, I’m enjoying it.
When I first heard Senator McCain had chosen a woman, I groaned inwardly. Not even an hour later I was listening to her acceptance speech and clapping. Finally, I can get excited about this election! I do believe God is working and definately has a sense of humor. Thanks for the picture.
I have had critical correspondence from people who read my blog because I was so excited about her as the V.P. candidate.
Only because she is a working mom and has a young baby.
I truly believe when God raises up an Esther in this day and time, he also raises up people around her who will help her raise her children (and one of them being Dad).
Yes, being at home is best but there are times I truly believe God will use women who have children outside the home.
Hi ladies,
I enjoy this blog very much and check it several times a week. That gives me some clout to say what I’m about to say.
With all due respect ladies, I think we have a serious disconnect going here. How many comments have I read about moms who barely have time to write a few lines on the computer, who rarely have time to sit and read a book, who feel overwhelmed with the myriad of responsibilities we have as wives and mothers? How can we maintain as within the realm of possibility pancaking on top of all those duties being Vice President of the United States?
What realm would we be living in? One with multiple copies of ourselves? Where children only need a few hours (OR LESS) of their mother’s time a week? Where mothers need NO sleep? Where our husbands are content with even less time than the children? Where there is a God who wants Roe vs. Wade overturned so badly that He is willing to sacrifice a family to do it? and on and on and on. . .
No where does the bible condone women leaving their children for some other vocation. Nor do you see role reversal in child rearing. If we jump on this political bandwagon, we are telling our daughters that SOMETIMES God contradicts His Word and asks mothers to sacrifice their children for some higher good.
The lie of feminism says that being a wife and mother is inglorious, menial and a waste of a talented woman’s abilities. We are followers of Jesus Christ who says differently. We should pray for Sarah Palin that God enlightens her eyes as to what she is missing with her children that she can never get back and allows her to get off this roller coaster.
Ginny, I totally agree with you. How exactly can a woman be the governor of Alaska or vice president of the United States and be home-centered?
Ginny, Thank you for your comment! You are totally right, scripture NOWHERE says that a woman should leave her family to pursue a career! A wife is to be at home with her children.. that is her calling, not being the VP!
With all of that being said… I was at least a little less irritated with the fact that she had her baby with her in this picture… but it DOESN’T change the fact that she isn’t at home being the help mate to her husband… since that is what we are called to do… we are to do WHATEVER our husbands don’t want to do or don’t have the time to do!
And that is what is God honoring… and he will bless us for that! (If, we are submitting on the out side and in out hearts!)
Oh, and Queen Esther didn’t have kids and she was still in direct submission to the authority over her (family, the king, etc.) I don’t think the story of Esther tells us to that its okay for a woman to be the VP!
Nothing I have read about Mrs. Palin suggests she’s gone “pursuing” this… more like it dropped in her lap and she stepped into the void to serve.
And even if Queen Esther HAD had children, I doubt that would have stopped God from using her.
But since when are we supposed to step in a fill a leadership void that men have left?
If our husbands fail to lead, we’re not supposed to step in and fill the void.
Well, Deborah would be one example.
Hmmm… Women are supposed to be silent in the churches, but I’ve never heard anything about being quiet at a town meeting or in the state legislature. I personally would not covet running for public office, but it’s at root the position of a servant. I don’t know much about the Rep VP, but I don’t recall Proverbs 31 saying, “Only if you feed your maidservants, only if you have the white linen ready and ironed…then you can go make arrangements for this piece of land.” After all, the lady in Proverbs 31 had a husband who was praised in the gates because of her, so she had to have some sort of good reputation in her community.
