We tried this out minus the fish sauce and mint. I'm sure those would have been good, but I didn't have either...and I was lacking in time to go to the specialty store for the sauce.
Anyhow, my husband and I liked it a lot. The kids weren't too excited about the cabbage. This is something I'll make again. We are in need of more low fat and low sodium meals. Thanks for sharing.

Mrs. Wilson, I know you saw the film Sweet Land with your husband (because that's where we read about the film, on Blog and Mablog :) We watched the film twice in two weeks and enjoyed it greatly. I have question though that has to do with something I saw in the film. I know this might sound weird, but do you know what kind of PIE DOUGH Brownie was rolling out on the kitchen table??? It looked like bread dough. I have never in my life seen pie dough like that, so heavy and smooth and perfect. Have you?? Is it a southern thing? A mid-western thing??? Does anyone on this blog know? I would appreciate it if someone could answer this non-spiritual question for me!! :D :D (now I'm really being a gnostic, huh?)

pentamom-
so, I would just use a butcher knife and a gentle rocking motion and keep scraping them back into the pile. That's what I would do, which is different than what I did do. What I did do was put the peanuts in a ziploc and have my two daughters stand on a chair and take turns whacking it with the rolling pin while I chopped up the other stuff. Worked great for us!

How does one chop peanuts? Seriously, I've never attempted this and I'm wondering if there is a convenient method.

Ooh...that does sound good. And doesn't have half a dozen arcane ingredients like so many Asian recipes. Hmm...when's the next fellowship dinner...?
