Thank you for this reminder, Mrs. Wilson. Maybe sometime you could do a post on how to graciously let down those "demanding [relatives] who are not inclined to set you free"?

This is such a great reminder to me as a still-newlywed adjusting to the broadened family obligations. Thank you!

This was a great article and it took many years to get my in-laws to be happy about this arrangement but it was either that or not at all. Too much else to fit in. We see my in-laws and all my husbands siblings (that live in town) and there families the Saturday before Christmas. We set the day on a family calendar a year in advance. We celebrate on Christmas Eve with the extendend family on my Daddy's side (his siblings, cousins, there families, etc my grandparents are no longer with us Grandma died this past year). ON Christmas morning we have our own family celebration. We all get up, Christmas story and then unwrap presents and some various other things. The only time this differs is when Christmas falls on a Sunday and then we do our Christmas celbration when we come home from church. Then we go to my Daddy's on Christmas day and celbrate with my Daddy and step mom and sometime my brother and sister and there families and my step sisters and children sometimes all of them, sometimes some of them, sometimes none. But we always go over there. IT has worked wonderfully this way. There are times that there are things added or changed but usually this way and it all works out and everyone has gotten to spend some time together.

Thank you so much for this! The last few years, since having kids, I have been left feeling like Christmas was way too busy. These are some great ideas and I'm anxious to share some of them with my family.
Thanks, Nikki (sister of Jana Alexander :)
